Services Questions

Do you handle permits and inspections?

Yes, we take care of everything. We pull all required permits and schedule all necessary inspections with your local building department so you do not have to worry about a thing. Proper permitting ensures your electrical work is safe, up to code, and will not cause issues when selling your home.

Permits are included in our project quotes — no surprise fees for permitting or inspection scheduling.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

A typical residential panel upgrade from 100A to 200A takes approximately 1 day to complete. This includes removing your old panel, installing the new one, reconnecting all circuits, and performing a thorough safety check. Your power will be off for a portion of the day, but we work efficiently to minimize the disruption.

We will give you a clear timeline before we start so you can plan your day accordingly. Most families find it easiest to schedule during a workday.

Can you install an EV charger in my garage?

Yes! We install all brands of Level 2 EV chargers in garages, driveways, and carports. We handle everything from running a new dedicated circuit to mounting and configuring your charger. Whether you already own the charger or need help selecting one, we have you covered.

A Level 2 charger provides 25-30 miles of range per hour of charging — perfect for overnight charging at home.

Do you work on older homes?

Yes, we specialize in rewiring older homes and bringing them up to current electrical code. Many homes built before the 1970s have outdated wiring (like knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring) that can be a fire hazard. Our team has extensive experience working with older construction and can upgrade your home safely with minimal disruption.

We take special care with older homes, patching drywall and preserving the character of your house while making it electrically safe and modern.

What brands of EV chargers do you install?

We are brand-agnostic and install all major EV charger brands, including:

Tesla
ChargePoint
JuiceBox
ClipperCreek
Emporia
Grizzl-E

Not sure which charger is right for your vehicle? We can help you choose the best option based on your car, driving habits, and electrical setup.

Safety Questions

How do I know if my panel needs upgrading?

There are several warning signs that your electrical panel may need an upgrade:

  • Flickering or dimming lights when you turn on appliances
  • Frequently tripping breakers or blown fuses
  • Burn marks or discoloration on your panel or outlets
  • An old fuse box instead of a modern circuit breaker panel
  • Buzzing or crackling sounds coming from your panel
  • Your home is over 25 years old and has never been updated

If you notice any of these signs, do not wait. Call us at (425) 648-7887 for a free safety assessment.

Is it safe to do my own electrical work?

No! Always hire a licensed electrician for electrical work. DIY electrical work is extremely dangerous and can result in:

  • Electrocution or severe injury
  • House fires from improper wiring
  • Code violations that can affect your homeowner's insurance
  • Legal penalties — most electrical work in Washington requires a licensed contractor

In Washington State, it is illegal for unlicensed individuals to perform most types of electrical work. Protect your family and your home — always hire a licensed professional.

What is a GFCI outlet?

A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is a special type of electrical outlet designed to protect you from electric shock. It constantly monitors the flow of electricity and will instantly shut off power if it detects a ground fault — such as water contacting a plugged-in appliance.

GFCI outlets are required by code in areas where water is present, including:

Kitchens Bathrooms Garages Outdoor areas Laundry rooms Basements

You can identify a GFCI outlet by its "Test" and "Reset" buttons. Press "Test" monthly to make sure it is working properly.

How often should I have my home's electrical inspected?

We recommend having a professional electrical inspection every 3 to 5 years for most homes. However, you should also schedule an inspection if you are:

  • Buying or selling a home — an inspection protects both parties
  • Planning a major renovation that involves new circuits or outlets
  • Adding high-power appliances like an EV charger, hot tub, or workshop
  • Experiencing electrical issues like flickering lights or tripping breakers

Regular inspections catch small problems before they become expensive (or dangerous) emergencies. Schedule your inspection today.

What should I do in an electrical emergency?

In an electrical emergency, follow these steps immediately:

  1. 1 Turn off the main breaker if it is safe to do so. This cuts power to your entire home.
  2. 2 Do NOT touch exposed wires or anything that may be electrically charged. Keep children and pets away.
  3. 3 Call 911 if there is a fire, injury, or immediate danger to life.
  4. 4 Call Next Phase Electric at (425) 648-7887 — we provide 24/7 emergency electrical service.

Never use water to put out an electrical fire. Use a Class C fire extinguisher or call 911 immediately.
