You picked the light. We take the old one down, check what is behind it, and hang the new one so it is level, solid and safe.
Next Phase Electric installs and replaces light fixtures in homes across South King and Pierce County: flush-mount ceiling lights, pendants, bathroom vanity lights, wall sconces, and porch and security lights. Swapping one fixture for another on the same box takes thirty to sixty minutes and needs no permit. Adding a light where there is none means a new box, a cable and a switch, and takes a few hours. Either way we check the box, the ground and the old wiring before the new fixture goes up.
Bring your own fixture, or tell us what you want and we bring it.
Flush and semi-flush fixtures in bedrooms, halls and kitchens. The old dome comes down, the new light goes up on a solid box.
Over a kitchen island, a sink or a dining table. Hung at the right height, evenly spaced, on a dimmer if you want one.
Damp-rated fixtures above the mirror. Older bathrooms often have the light wired with no box behind it; we fit one.
Wet-rated fixtures sealed to the siding, motion and dusk-to-dawn sensors, flood lights at the corners of the house.
The new light is the easy part. This is what decides whether the job is thirty minutes or two hours.
A fixture hangs from the electrical box, not the drywall. Plastic boxes crack, old metal ones come loose, and some lights were never mounted on a box at all. We fix that before anything heavy hangs from it.
New fixtures have a ground wire. Houses from before the mid-1960s often have nothing to connect it to. We tell you what the options are instead of tucking it into the box.
Decades above a hot bulb bake the insulation until it crumbles when touched. Many new fixtures also call for higher-temperature wire than older houses have. We repair the ends or add a short new section.
They sound alike. They are different jobs.
| Replace a fixture | Add a new light | |
|---|---|---|
| Wiring | Uses the box and switch that are already there. | New cable, a new box and usually a new switch. |
| Permit | Not needed for a like-for-like swap. | Yes. It is new wiring, and we pull it. |
| Time | Thirty to sixty minutes each. | Two to four hours. |
| Walls and ceiling | Untouched. | Cable fished through. Small access holes only where there is no other way. |
Several fixtures in one visit cost less each than one at a time.
Licensed, bonded and insured. Background-checked crew.
Tell us how many fixtures and where. A photo of each existing light helps. A technician reaches out within 1 business hour.
Box, ground, wiring, ceiling height. You get the exact price before any work, and you approve it first.
Fixture assembled and mounted, bulbs in, switch and dimmer tested, old fixture hauled off if you want.
Repairs: King and Pierce County south of I-90. Installations: greater Puget Sound.
A homeowner may replace a fixture in their own house. Anyone you pay to do it must be a licensed electrical contractor in Washington, so a handyman cannot legally do it for you. People call us when the ceiling is high, the fixture is heavy, the wiring looks old, or they would rather it was done right the first time.
A straight swap on a standard ceiling is one of the smallest jobs we do. Height, weight, and what we find in the box change it. You get the exact price before any work starts, and several fixtures in one visit bring the price of each one down.
Yes. We run a cable from a nearby circuit, mount a box in the ceiling and add a wall switch. With attic access above, it is a few hours and little or no patching. It is new wiring, so it gets a permit.
Either. Most people buy the fixture they like and we install it. If you want us to supply it, tell us the room and the style and we bring options.
It is common and fixable. We cut back to sound insulation, sleeve or extend the wires, and make the connections in the box. If the wiring is aluminum, from 1965 to 1975, it needs connectors made for it, and we carry them.
Yes. Porch lights, garage lights, motion-sensor floods and dusk-to-dawn fixtures, all wet-rated and sealed to the wall. Replacing an existing one is quick; a new location needs a cable run.
Thirty to sixty minutes for each fixture replaced. High ceilings, heavy fixtures and stairwells take longer. A new light in a new spot is two to four hours.
Book online or call. Send a photo of the old fixture and the new one.
