Slow, stuck, or wobbling. A capacitor, a bearing, or a box not made for a fan — all one-visit fixes.
Three causes cover almost every call we get for this.
The fan hums or runs slowly. A small part, quick to replace on a fan worth keeping.
Grinding, slow, hot motor. Usually time for a new fan.
A light-fixture box carrying a fan loosens over years. The wobble is the box. Replace with a fan-rated brace.
Takes a minute, costs nothing, fixes it more often than you would think.
Check the pull chain or wall control is not set to the lowest speed or off.
Still happening? That's our job.
We test the capacitor and the switch, replace them on a fan worth keeping, or install a new fan on a fan-rated box and brace, balance it, and wire the light and fan separately where the wiring allows.

Right parts, tested under load, next connection checked so it does not come back.
A ceiling fan that has stopped, runs slowly or hums without turning usually has a failed capacitor or worn motor bearings. One that wobbles is unbalanced or, more seriously, hanging from a ceiling box that was never rated for a fan, which is common in homes where a light fixture was swapped for a fan. A failed capacitor is a cheap repair; worn bearings or an unrated box usually mean replacing the fan on a proper fan-rated brace, which we do in about an hour.
A capacitor on a good fan is worth repairing. Bearings, a cracked blade bracket or an unrated box: replace. We tell you which.
