High Electric Bill: Is Something Wired Wrong?

The bill doubled and nothing changed. Something is drawing power you are not using — we measure circuit by circuit.

Why It Happens

What It Usually Is

Three causes cover almost every call we get for this.

Element stuck on

A dryer, range or auxiliary heat element that never switches off. Large, constant draw.

Pump running constantly

A well or sump pump with a failed switch, running day and night.

Ground fault leaking current

A damaged underground cable or a wet box leaking to ground. Shows up on the meter, never on a device.

Before You Call

Worth Trying First

Takes a minute, costs nothing, fixes it more often than you would think.

Turn off every breaker but the main and watch the meter. If it still spins, the fault is on the service side — tell us.

Still happening? That's our job.

How It Works

What Happens When You Book

We clamp every circuit at the panel, find the one drawing power it should not, trace it to the appliance or the fault, and fix the electrical side — or tell you exactly which appliance needs a technician.

You Book

Online or by phone. A technician reaches out within 1 business hour.

We Find It

Traced to the box or device it lives in. Exact price before any work, you approve it first.

Fixed and Tested

Right parts, tested under load, next connection checked so it does not come back.

FAQ

Common Questions

A sudden, sustained rise in the electric bill with no change in how you live usually means something is drawing power you are not using: a heating element stuck on in a dryer or range, a well pump or sump pump running constantly, a heat pump's backup strip heat running when it should not, a failing appliance, or a fault leaking current to ground. Wiring itself does not "use" power, but a fault can. An electrician with a clamp meter measures every circuit at the panel and finds the draw in an hour.

Rarely. Measuring each circuit tells us whether the draw is real; if it is not, we tell you to ask PSE for a meter test.

About an hour to measure every circuit and identify the draw.
